What will you believe in?
Our time is calling us to a new humanity, and ours can only rise from what we believe in.
Our time has hit us hard, putting a lot of stress on our inner systems, forcing us to live suspended in that ‘here and now’ that inhibits any planning or projection for the future. This pandemic has upset us, but at the same time it has offered us a great opportunity to transform our lives, to savour the slowness of the wait again, to take care of ourselves and of those little things of unquantifiable value.
We are now at a turning point: we have an opportunity, probably the last one, to build our Third Paradise, a new world for us, where to restore at last a balance with nature, technology and ourselves. But how? We have to ‘re-learn’ to believe.
Believing means having an enormous inner strength that strives to direct all our efforts towards the realisation of our being: our strength will be our authenticity, our solidity will be our transparency. Believing will make us free, set an example and be of help to others.
What will I believe in? In all that I have always believed in, but in a stronger manner, with determination, vigour and my head held high. I will believe even more strongly in the words of my oath and in the values and history of the uniform I wear, which will always be sewn on my skin. I will believe in those values and history which teach that the sacrifice of some has saved the life of many. I will believe that only together we can be stronger and nobody is left behind. I will believe in meritocracy and commitment. I will believe in trust and courage. I will believe in the emotions raised by an hymn and in the embrace of a three-colour flag.
I will above all believe in the example that my uniform can set for the new generations, made of good people who don’t show off, don’t complain and fight every day to ensure the freedom and the safety of our institutions; those men and women with a stern look but a gentle hand who have chosen a life at the service of others. My Third Paradise will be my arm holding a child: my commitment to lead them towards a better future, made of justice, humanity and legality, where the example teaches to fight, always, for what you believe in.
