“The Demopraxy recognizes that the primary force that shapes the everyday life of social life is that capacity for self-determination that practically every organized group of individuals possesses. Gathered by the goal of doing something together, these communities of practice are of the most diverse types. And in each one there are rituals and practices that articulate its functioning. Often the table constitutes the fundamental mechanism of this social functioning, as a horizontal wheel, capable of transmitting movement and dynamics around itself: work table, meeting and board of advice table, canteen table… The saturnalia and the rituals of rebirth, such as the Rebirthday, they often form around tables. This forming takes place today, 21.12.21, it will take place on Christmas day, on 25.12, and on New Year’s day, on 31.12. Tables and boards. Perhaps the covid will force us to keep the size and number of these tables to a minimum. However, even the smallest tables can always exercise their sometimes imperceptible shift in rotation, which sets in motion and makes places, ideas and people go round. This force is so powerful that it also emanates from imagined tables, from virtual and metaphorical ones. Around each of these tables it is now urgent that we discuss what to do to regain possession of a prosperous and harmonious destiny. How to dress? How to eat? How to heat our home? How to go from one place to another? How to welcome the other? How to learn? How to take care of life? These are the same questions that the objectives and targets of the 2030 agenda for sustainable development ask us. There is none of these goals that doesn’t land on our tables every day. Even when we don’t see this dynamic. The practices of the demos therefore revolve around these tables. When the tables of the rebirthday, of Christmas, of the New Year and in reality of every day, take on the awareness of the primary role they have in the life and survival of humans on the planet, then demopraxy will have arrived. It is a wish. It is a project. It is our artwork” – Paolo Naldini, Director, Cittadellarte.
