The Art of Balance #82 | Maria Bonmassar, what will you engage in?
The journalist is the 82nd participant in the initiative “The Art of Balance / Pandemopraxy”, launched by Cittadellarte. Maria Bonmassar outlines a series of contexts into which she will pour her energies, from life to “the freedom to be anything one wants”, from taking care of oneself and others to taking care of the planet.
“In this horrible year,” she said, “the commitment is to fostering even more the freedom of thought, of sharing and enjoying the arts”.
What will you engage in?
Commitment is the modality with which I face every aspect of life, from everyday concerns to great existential issues.
My main commitment is towards the freedom to be what one wants, of thought, of action, of movement.
My daily commitment is to taking care of myself, both body and soul, of others and of everybody, always acting in respect of their freedom.
My constant commitment towards nature and the planet is to eating moderately, and not other animals if possible, to travelling by ecological transport, to practising disciplines conveying positive energies.
My life commitment is to giving my little contribution to promoting the arts, bearers of beauty.
In this horrible year, which has restrained our freedom of action, my commitment is to fostering even more the freedom of thought, of sharing and enjoying the arts, all arts.
And finally, my commitment is to doing all I can to defeat arrogance, in order to resume a dignified life. We have lived as masters of the world and now, with serious delay, we are learning that we are mere guests and that we must have more respect for everybody: for others, for nature and for the planet.
Maria Bonmassar’s bio: “After a degree in Modern Literatures with a thesis on History of Art, and a specialisation in History of Modern and Contemporary Art, my first work experience was as an assistant to an art merchant and then as an exhibition organizer. I learnt the work of a press office at the American Academy in Rome, eventually managing one on my own (1993-2001). After that, I collaborated with many museums and art events, from the Spoleto Festival to the MACRO (Rome’s museum of contemporary art), from FAI (the national trust of Italy) to the Italian and Mexican Pavilions at the Venice Art Biennale. I have also held a position in public administration at the Ministry for Cultural Heritage and Activities as a press officer for the minister Francesco Rutelli (2006-2008). I am currently directing the press offices of Gallerie Nazionali Barberini Corsini, of the big exhibitions at Gallerie d’Italia, of Intesa Sanpaolo’s museums in Milan, Naples and Vicenza, of the 2020 Art Quadriennale, of a few exhibition projects at San Luca Academy in Rome, of Fondazione Memmo in Rome, etc. I am a registered freelance journalist, with twenty-five years of experience in the field”.
