Naples’ Venus of the rags on fire, arson attack at dawn The fire, which broke out between 5.15 and 5.30 this morning, destroyed Michelangelo Pistoletto's work created by Cittadellarte, which had been inaugurated on 28 June in the city hall square: the fire melted the sculpture and reduced the rags to ashes, sparing only the metal structure. “I do not declare preventive war on those who made this catastrophic gesture," said the artist, “I propose preventive peace instead”.
