“Cultural diplomacy”, a webinar on the Third Paradise at the Espronceda Institute of Art & Culture
On 14 January, the Espronceda Institute of Art and Culture in Barcelona proposed a talk dedicated to Michelangelo Pistoletto's sign-symbol, to the practice of the Biellese artist and to Cittadellarte. Speaking at the event – attended by remote international participants – was Saverio Teruzzi, coordinator of the Rebirth/Third Paradise project, with Savina Tarsitano, Rebirth/Third Paradise ambassador, as moderator. The webinar, part of the new project "Cultural Diplomacy", focusing on the concepts of peace and solidarity, was organised in cooperation with the German Consulate in Barcelona, with the patronage of ENCATC (European Network on Cultural management and policy) and the collaboration of the international project "Kids-Guernica", the European Culture Parliament, the cultural association "Embajada del art" and "Guernica Remakings".

The Espronceda Institute of Art & Culture was founded in 2013 to create an innovative platform for artistic and cultural research that could produce social impact and responsible change in society. It wants to build a multidisciplinary environment to promote international dialogue between artists, curators, critics, gallery owners, collectors, culture managers, scientists, diplomats, academics throughout Europe and the world, enabling them to collaborate in the socio-cultural sphere. Its philosophy is in fact based on the interconnection between art, culture, science and society aimed at establishing new alliances and providing an active contribution to the implementation of Agenda 2030. Its methodology offers an interdisciplinary approach encompassing visual and new media arts, performing arts, music and theatre, whose objective is to generate solidarity and tap into humanity across all races, cultures and backgrounds. “Our commitment and contribution to the world of art and culture,” reads the official website, “is activated through the organisation of artistic and cultural residencies, exhibitions, workshops, webinars and symposia that embrace a variety of contemporary themes, in association with local and European partners. We consider forming alliances on the local territory through an exchange of skills and knowledge essential to achieve the vision of the Agenda 2030. Espronceda has a programme of collaborations with international projects in the fields of education, social change and sustainability in Europe and abroad, which also includes a number of activities inspired by the Third Paradise (such as, for example, International Peace Kids-Guernica) and Cittadellarte.

This is why the talk of 14 January involved Saverio Teruzzi, coordinator of the ambassadors of the Rebirth/Third Paradise project, as guest speaker, and ambassador Savina Tarsitano as moderator. The webinar, part of the new project “Cultural Diplomacy”, focusing on the concepts of peace and solidarity, was organised in cooperation with the German Consulate in Barcelona, with the patronage of ENCATC (European Network on Cultural management and policy) and the collaboration of the international project “Kids-Guernica”, the European Culture Parliament, the cultural association “Embajada del art” and “Guernica Remakings”. The event presented the activities curated by Teruzzi, who highlighted the peculiarities and objectives of Cittadellarte and the trinamic symbol. Teruzzi commented in particular on the heterogeneity of the participants: “People from all over the world took part in the talk,” he said, “all characterised by a deep connection to artivism, that is, art active on political and social levels. It was a pleasure to be able to illustrate the identity and mission of the Third Paradise to such a geographically and culturally diverse audience”. Judging by the numerous questions asked by the audience, Saverio’s speech turned out to be a success: “Many of the people connected,” he added, “asked for more in-depth information on the topics dealt with in my talk, which, for this reason, and to my pleasure, ended up lasting almost an hour longer than expected”. What specifically emerged? “In addition to illustrating my role as coordinator and the genesis of the Rebirth/Third Paradise project, during the talk I explained how the trinamic symbol is above all a harmonising tool, i.e. how it succeeds in speaking of the good and evil that reside within people and society. I also proposed a focus on Cittadellarte and Michelangelo Pistoletto. Teruzzi then took the opportunity to anticipate to the audience the details of an initiative planned for two months’ time at a global level: “In conclusion, I talked about the importance of the event of 21 March 2023,” he said, “which will consist of a series of performances in which physical and virtual lines of people will be created, holding hands to launch a message of inclusion and peace through the language of art”.
