The Third Paradise combines art and cure: South Africa launches the digital exhibition “Cure”

The online exhibition – a proposal by UJ Arts & Culture in Johannesburg – has involved 17 artists who have interrogated and explored through their works possible processes leading global civilization to a new level of responsibility. The participants have elaborated the contents drawing inspiration from Michelangelo Pistoletto’s sign-symbol, referencing to a balance between nature and artifice, and to the curing qualities art can have in society.

The Art of Balance #57 | Cristina Marianello and Filippo Riniolo, how will you greet people?

The language expert and the artist are the 57th participants in the project “The Art of Balance / Pandemopraxy”, launched by Cittadellarte. The two guests of the initiative talk about how the way of greeting each other has changed in the post-pandemic, analysing the importance that this ritual has had in history and on a social level, in all its forms. “We can’t touch each other anymore, and in our culture more than in any other touching is a gesture of courtesy, affection, respect […]. It’s therefore down to our thought and imagination to devise a new way of greeting for this changed society that lives at a distance never experienced before. We need a new language to say things as old as our nature: feelings, emotions, intentions that animate our days”.

The Art of Balance #56 | Raffaele Quattrone, how will you smile?

The Rebirth/Third Paradise ambassador is the 56th participant in the initiative “The Art of Balance / Pandemopraxy”, launched by Cittadellarte. Raffaele Quattrone reveals the devastating impact the pandemic has had on his private and professional life, and his plans for a restart: “I thought a lot about me, who I was, who I am, who I wanted to be, who I’d like to be. I was wondering: how will I smile, how will we smile the day all this is finished? As Fabrizio Caramagna says, smiling allows the soul to breathe. So why not restart with a smile?”. This episode’s guest concludes by stressing how a social, health and economic rebirth needs everybody to act responsibly, and not passively wait for the actions of our political representatives.

Architecture, sustainability and transports in times of Coronavirus: an interview with Carlo Ratti

Emanuele Bottigella, manager of n.o.v.a.civitas, Fondazione Pistoletto’s Architecture Office, has interviewed Carlo Ratti, architect and engineer who directs the Senseable City Lab at Boston MIT and is one of the founding partners of the studio Carlo Ratti Associati (Turin and New York). Their discussion centres on the use of private and professional spaces in the post-COVID-19 future, with a focus on mobility and the importance of sustainable design to counter the onset of new health emergencies. "Pandemics are closely linked to urban history. Cities are by their nature congested and therefore fertile ground for the spread of viruses".

The Art of Balance #55 | Daniela Di Gennaro, what will you believe in?

The Rebirth/Third Paradise ambassadress is the 55th guest of the initiative "The Art of Balance / Pandemopraxy”, launched by Cittadellarte. Daniela Di Gennaro participates with a video in which she recounts the events narrated in the book “Il Puntino (the small dot) - illustrated edition”, to then present a variation of the story inspired by Michelangelo Pistoletto’s Third Paradise. The Art of Balance #54 | Gheller, Occhiena, Salvio, what will you wear?

In the context of the collaboration between Cittadellarte Fashion B.E.S.T. and the European Institute of Design in Turin, the students - attending the Institute’s three-year course in Fashion Design - have taken part in the initiative “The Art of Balance / Pandemopraxy”. Here are their three contributions, which allow us to widen the reflection on the theme of environmental, ethical and social sustainability, which is the focus of their thesis projects, developed also through their participation in B.E.S.T.’s workshops and meetings held in Biella and Cittadellarte in the course of the last academic year.

The Rebirth/Third Paradise ambassador is the 53rd participant in the initiative “The Art of Balance / Pandemopraxy”, launched by Cittadellarte. Marco Papa proposes a reflection on balance and individual awareness, in an attempt to identify the social path the human race must try to travel: “We want an evolution without a revolution, catechising the doubt with the solution”. This episode’s guest also tells us how he will behave in the post-pandemic future: “I’ve been and will keep looking after more than one plot of land, so as to encourage animals to draw closer, after fires and ignorance have driven them away for the last thirty years”.

The Art of Balance #52 | Carlo Covini, what will you wear?

Carlo Covini (Lenzing’s Business Development and Project Manager) is the 52nd participant in the initiative “The Art of Balance / Pandemopraxy”, launched by Cittadellarte. This episode’s guest hopes that environment and sustainability will soon receive great social attention, the same as it has been for distancing and face mask use regulations. Covini then focuses on the company he works for illustrating how ethics meets fashion also through REFIBRA™ technology and TENCEL™ materials. “We collaborate with important brands,” he said, “but also with young fashion designers fiercely daring to interpret textile sustainability in innovative and uncompromising ways”.
